Programs

The Center offers a great depth in programming options (Academic, Dance, Arts and Crafts, Music, Nutrition, and Chess/Checkers) with a focus on technique and skill building. By providing constructive and supervised instruction in math, reading, science, dance, fine arts, music and nutrition, we inspire youth to develop and perfect skills which result in positive, life-long personal development.

Our Academic programs helps students to improve their math, science and reading skills it is also teach youth strategies to succeed in school, to control emotions and adjust attitude. The program shows young people how much they lose if they fail to complete high school or go back to school to get an education.

Math Classes:

  • Our math assessment helps us target the exact skills your child is missing, so we can create a personalized math program that delivers results.
  • We decrease the amount of time spent on homework each night by making your child more comfortable and accurate with math facts.
  • We bring math to life, make problem solving easier, and increase your child’s competencies through the use of manipulative.
  • We measure progress every step of the way and won’t move forward until your child has completely mastered each skill.
  • Our math programs align with the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Reading Classes:

    Did you know a gap in your child’s reading foundation can make learning more difficult in almost every subject area? Our classes can pinpoint and build the exact reading skills your child needs to become a more confident reader and successful student at every grade level. Our reading tutors are qualified, caring and passionate about helping your child build the reading skills he needs to achieve his personal goals. Our reading programs are developed using solid, scientific research and education industry best practices. Consistent with the findings of the National Reading Panel, Center’s approach to reading ensures mastery of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

    Science Classes:

    The key goals of science tutoring are to help extend students’ understanding of the content and skills they are learning during the school day, connect to state and national science standards, and ultimately increase students’ desire to learn. Specific content standards will vary based on individual students’ needs.

    Dance Classes:

    As part of our effort to promote healthy activities for youth, the Center has developed a dance program for youth ages 5-18.  Dance instruction is provided for ballroom dance, ballet, modern dance and HipHop.  Ballroom dance classes are grouped under International Style Standard Dances and International Style Latin Dances.   International Style Standard Dances include the Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep.  International Style Latin Dances include the Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive and Paso Doble.  The dance classes are taught in group and in private lesson settings.

    Competition Adventure Program

    The Center also provides, in collaboration with U.S.A. Ballroom Dance Association (USABDA) and National Dance Council of America (NDCA), private instruction for competition level dance.  Participants are given age-and skill-appropriate, multi-cultural instruction to learn new dance techniques and gain insight into cultures dance histories.  This instruction is highly focused to further develop flexibility, grace, coordination, posture, poise, sportsmanship and social skills.

    Art Classes:

    The Center’s art classes are designed to improve hand-eye coordination, increase knowledge of the history of art mediums and guide youth in the perfecting skills while exploring imaginative expression in a variety of mediums.  The Center provides art classes designed to teach history, technique and concepts while encouraging personal creativity and expression.  Art classes are provided for Drawing, Pottery, Cartooning, Watercolor and Oil painting.   The Center also has classes for Jewelry Making, Knitting and Macramé.  Art shows are organized cyclically and are open to parent and public viewing.

Nutritional Meals Program:

The Center provides education in kitchen safety, reading nutrition labels and preparing a healthy, low calorie menu.  Traditional Russian menu items are altered to increase healthy content and decrease fat and calories.  Meal planning based on the food pyramid is part of the instruction.  Menu items range from the basic dinner menu to the more elaborate holiday foods.

Chess/Checkers:

To engage youth, regardless of ability and experience, the Center provides instruction and immediate opportunities to participate in the play of chess and checkers.  The Center was deliberate in its choice of this activity opportunity for youth.  Chess and checkers are life-long mind engaging exercises that promote reasoning, problem solving and critical and creative thinking.  All equipment is provided. Participants are given the option to compete in local tournaments.

Summer  Camp:

In addition to the programming described above, to ensure youth are engaged while school is not in session, the Center provides 8 weeks of summer day camp programming beginning June 16, 2010.  The camp provides traditional camp and academic activities. Activities are scheduled throughout the week and include the following: learning activities,  ballroom dance training; aerobic and stretch exercises; HipHop; art, crafts and games; cooking or baking project; reading exercise and discussion; field trips; Friday outdoor picnic; and a disco party at the end of each session. Many camp opportunities are out of reach for the youth of low-income or immigrant families due to cost and lack of knowledge and trust with sending their children to unknown or unfamiliar organizations.
